So I’m surprised noone else has brought this up…

In that big sprite dump that was put out a while ago, there is something interesting in two of the folders. There seem to be child versions of Aeolia and one other Magypsy. (I forget which one it was. I wanna say it was Phrygia?) Either that, or unused child sprites were just mixed in with those folders.

The children’s sprites in Aeolia’s folder look like a young Kumatora in winter clothing. I don’t know about the Phrygia folder, but looking at Phrygia’s standing sprites, I want to ask, did Phrygia actually get up or walk around in the game, or did s/he spend all of his time in bed?

I have no something.

The only time I remember seeing her walking around was after her needle was pulled, when she gives you her notebook that is almost completely useless if you’ve been doing the needles “in order.”

Looks more like that Saxophone guy from DCMC to me, although with a different outfit and hair style.

Now that I think about it, my claim was kinda out there. My only reason for believing it is Locria was the fact it was in Phrygia’s folder. But it guess that doesn’t really mean anything. :0 Whatever, it’s still unused.

Okay, here’s the result of my adventures through the sprite collection from the Mother 3 blog. As far as I can remember, none of these were used in the game, though it could be I just forgot some special scene they’re from. See the attachment. And please read the spoiler for an explanation, especially for Flint.

Masked Man: I don’t remember him shooting to the right at any point, or even him having some sort of gun. The lower-right one looks like the two possessed sprites, but it’s different, since his left arm is longer. Almost like he’s hanging on to something.

Flint: Yep, he seems to be hanging onto something flying. Even into the GBA version, it seems he replaced Kumatora at this point in the plot.

Lucas: Apparently being lifted into the air, maybe by some sort of claw. And struggling at the top.

Frozen Drago: A frozen drago. Curious. EDIT: Apparently this WAS in the game, in a chimera lab freezer. My bad.

Hinawa: I don’t remember her pulling anything so hard in the game. In Chapter 1, she sits down, and walks outside with the dove. Everything of her after that shows her as a ghost, I think.

Girl, bottom-right: Little Kumatora! From the Aeolia folder.

Locria?: More of the supposed Locria sprites that were posted above, and compared to the most similar members of DCMC and also the other magypsies. These sprites were in a folder with more sprites of the sleeping Magypsie.

Reasons to think he really is beta-Yokuba:

He’s blue, like the shell’s interior (a trait shard by the other magypsies). And his hair’s a banana or horn.
The second sprite seems to show him standing on his toes. Odd that they’d make a sprite of this, considering the magypsies seem to be the only ones who do odd stuff with their feet when they talk. Mostly.
Two of those sprites seem to show him holding something up to his ear. Cellphone?
His face is very similar to the first two magypsies shown.
The kicker: given that the other 6 all wear different colors, I tried to see if his was different. It’s light blue, but also prominently white. Not to mention, he’s wearing white gloves, just like the others. White gloves. What other characters wear gloves, much less white ones?

The frozen Drago was inside a freezer room in the Chimera Lab. All the others are unused, it seems. :0

I don’t know about the masked man shooting anyone,but maybe it was to make it obvious that the thing he has on his arm was a gun, or he was meant to be more evil-actively killing/hurting people.

Not all of those are unused, I think. I'm p. sure only that one Magypsy sprite in orange (Locria the lost?) is unused, the frozen Drago I believe appears in the freezer in the Chimera Lab, and Flint with the spear thing is at the end of chapter 1 IIRC.

The sprites in gray boxes are for comparison. Flint never lowered his spear that far, as I said in my post. I’m guessing he originally killed the mecha drago, which is why they’re there, but when they changed that, they didn’t need those last few sprites. (Edits attachment)

What i think of one of the unused sprites.

Hinawa was just pulling a prank throughout the whoooole game.
She had her evil twin sister Awanih get stabbed instead.
She never died.
Her ghost was all done with smoke and mirrors, Everyone was in on it except Flint and Lucas.

PSI is a mysterious and useful power that can repleniish energy or even assist in your transportation needs.

That’s unused.. <_<
I say it was removed for similar reasons to Bioshock’s Teleport plasmid being removed.

The developers say that they ultimately removed the plasmid because of its potential to cause havoc with scripted events in the game.

Those “pulling” animations for Hinawa also exist for young Claus. On the subject of him, there’s animations of him climbing, sitting with his clothes on, and swimming. There’s also sprites of Claus wandering around in his masked man suit, walking in ALL directions, and talking.

The Pokeybots have a lot of unused sprites too…

- Sitting
- Yelling at you (?)
- Getting up
- Destroyed?

And I heard that if You use the walk through walls code to get to the chimera lab you can see the Masked man under construction sprite, would that make it"Used, but not encounterable" or “Unused”?

One is the end screen. The shell looks slightly different, but this may be due to the way graphics look in these programs. The one with the save frog is the tower of love and peace. The one with the stones in the grass is clearly the Oshoe Castle needle area. The pig looks unused.

If you modify your player’s sprites to Aeolia, when walking around you get hooded Kumatora or whatever that is. Same with Phyrgia. The reason begin is that Aeolia and Phyrgia didn’t have sprites for walking in some directions (Aeolia just had one for standing forward, which isn’t seeable in the game either. She was always sitting in the game.)

More unused sprites, I think. Unless there was some big optional flashback I missed. Mostly Lucas and Claus stuff this time. (Moupi Moupi’s comments made me check the stuff out)

So, the attachment, from top to bottom:

Top row: Weird sprites of Claus just standing, swaying, winking, cheering. Some might have been used, but most I doubt.

Second row: Claus pulling animation, similar to the Hinawa one, which a previous poster pointed out, I think. After that, there are two of a dead Claus. The first is normal, but the second one…has no shoes.

Then two of Claus preparing to run, and three of a “zero HP” Claus – which looks like you could move him around in your party at some point.

Next three rows: Claus diving and swimming. He’s got orange swimming trunks. Or…he just swims in his shorts. Sure seems to indicate an extended, unused prologue. And the Chimera….Nwehehehe.

Masked Man Sprites: Show Claus walking in different directions and speaking without the mask on. This doesn’t happen in the end of the game, nor in the credits. Then one of the masked man talking – odd, but might have been used to show him gasping or something.

To the Right: Tiny Salsa sprites, like the ones of Lucas and Kumatora when they’re walking up the snow mountain to reach their Indiana-Jones-style-fridge launcher. Unless he was playable at that point, I can’t see why these sprites exist.

Also: The pig sprites, merged – originally posted by MegaFinder

Next two rows: Lucas taking off his shirt and shoes, then diving into the water while holding his nose. Aww. Even his diving sprites showed how timid he was.

Last row: Lucas being zapped while in the water. It’s odd, because these sprites are in memory right before the ones of him holding his breath and coming back up – which happened when he first got his PSI. So…I’m gusssing he originally got his PSI with a zap – which is probably what they’d do if they ever translated the game. You know, none of that suspicious enduring things a little longer.

So, theories supported by these sprites:

Young Claus used to be a much more important playable character.
Some swimming scene of young Lucas and Claus got cut out.
The Masked Man didn’t die originally (or he stayed alive longer)
Salsa stayed with your party for a longer period of the game.
Lucas originally got PSI by being electrocuted.

This is also interesting: Flint’s train-dodging animation is perfect. Though the sprites used are pretty standard ones.

Isn’t the Claus Swaying used in the Naming Screen, next to Lucas? I’’m going to check this now…

Edit: Claus only closes his eye when swaying to his side (He is on the left, Lucas on the right) Lucas when to his. So mabey they just had both, becuse they seem easy enouth to manibulate from other sprites. As a “just in case we need to change this” kinda thing

Edit 2: Some of the swimming sprites (Head above water) maby be hot spring sprites (Dead lucas, clause/younger claus in water)

I’m pretty sure those shocked sprites are of an older Lucas. His eyes are more than 1 pixel above the mouth. Plus they’re in the same spot in memory as the other sprites beside it, which makes me think they’re from the same event.

@MegaFinder: Here’s more credit. One or two of the ones you posted were apparently from an entire map of the islands. Anyone know what the thing reads?

Also found statues, a revitalizer, Mother 2 style without the pig symbol, and some rocks from the north shore of Mushroomy-island. Which actually seemed cooler before I realized that.
