Basically, on Itoi's site, he posted these mysterious words:

On the 22nd he says:

"It" is progressing in secret.

Everyone who's working on "it", let's make an announcement in the near future, ok?

On the 23rd he says:

We're doing one of those big group get-togethers. (note: this is where people working on something get together and stay at a hotel or a camp to get tons of work done)
So I'm at a Kichijoji hotel again today.

Those are just a few quotes, he blabs about Kichijoji some more and stuff. I'm in too much of a hurry to translate the rest for now though.

Now, you might be wondering what exactly is AT Kichijoji. Obviously there are lots of things there, but what's most interesting is that is where Brownie Brown is located. If you've read the Mother 3 section, you'll also see that a while ago there was a rumor that Itoi had started working with Brownie Brown for Mother 3. I should also point out that Brownie Brown recently posted a job listing in which they're looking for game testers to work on something for about 3 or 4 months.

Also, check out this recent project/game/whatisit? on Brownie Brown's site. Click on New Game to get it to run: Crazy stuff (edit: the enemy's name is N-Company Person. In so many ways that reminds me of Project Mr. Sparkle Very Happy

Anyway, basically given all this evidence, it's highly possible Mother 3 is entering its debug stage.

EDIT: Having skimmed some of BB's other pages that go along with that weird "game", it looks very possible that this project is a DS game.

On a side note, I've been absent from the site for the last few weeks because the stress of my work and the stress of working on the site (just you try conducting a thousand new staffers) started to physically take its toll on me in a painful and scary way. I don't plan on returning to full capacity at the site for a while, but I will still show up to post important news like this.

I can't think of anything clever to post, so let me just say that I am very excited.

...And if it is, I hope Nintendo realizes what potential there is in releasing it here. Granted, they are gambling a little more by releasing DS games not unlike Famicom Detective Club and Dating sims, but after hearing all the hype from us and everyone else, I imitate Paula and pray that they'll release it here, alongside Mother 1+2 to give those who missed out a chance to feel the glory that is EB!

Where did you see that? In that mother-jp article it only ponders a release between late 2005 and spring 2006.

It should also be noted that mother-jp.net is akin to a Japanese SM.Net, in fact it's even hosted on our server, so it's more of a fan site than an official site.

Oh don't mind me, I was just presuming. April and May are always the best times for Springtime Nintendo realases. Just like October and the Holiday rush.

... That is unless the article implied that the game was going to be debugged in the springtime of 2006.

Interesting, if Mother 3 does come out on the DS then it might give the upcoming line up of DS games some pazazz, well maybe only for Japanese players, but heres hoping! I feel jealous for all those lucky sons of guns who get to play this game before anyone else!

I really am thinking this is Mother 3.

I decided to babelfish the first page in the section on Brownie Brown's section on "Project B" and from what I can gather, they got a "secret document" from the "N Corporation"(Nintendo, more than likely). Then it mentions a portable system with two liquid crystal screens and pen input(the Nintendo DS). Then it mentions "the software of GBA moves, it seems" which could possibly mean that they were developing for GBA and they moved the development to DS. The rest makes little to no sense to me.

On the next page the title is "new plan birth" which adds to the move from GBA to DS idea I mention above. Can someone translate the following:

Babelfish translates the part between the tildes as "the strongest hypnosis teacher" and mentions this game as being the "worldwide first hypnosis RPG" which really confuses me now...The rest of the page seems to mention the difficulty of transitioning from GBA to DS or something like that.

The third page seems to be about planning the game and it's concepts.

The fourth page mentions something about making the RPG only for DS.

The fifth page is the 'game' which doesn't translate, but I'm hoping someone will find out what it's all about.

Thoughts?

I don't know. That might be what it means. If they decide to put Mother 3 out on the DS, great. If they want it on Gameboy Advance, great. Whatever they want to do, you know.

We don't know. It's still all speculation. But read Itoi's comments and then "play" that little flash game. Besides, I don't ever recall Itoi being involved with any other Brownie Brown stuff, and why would he refer to it as "it" and say it's been "progressing in secret"?

It sucks that they're putting it on DS. Handheld video games give me a major headache. At least with GBA I can play the game on my TV using the Gameboy Player with my GC.

I don't think that game ("Magical Vacation DS") has anything to do with Mother 3...according to Gamefaqs and their short article on Wikipedia, they developed a game called "Magical Vacation" for GBA, and now they are in development of the sequel for DS.

Not that that doesn't mean they're working with Itoi on Mother 3.

Although it's been so long since Earthbound, the game is built so firmly into my brain as one of the most interesting and comical role playing games ever made. I kind of fear a new EB — so much hype, so many memories. So much to lose.

If it is Mother 3, and it only comes out on ROM, I am driving to Arizona and lashing Tomato until he translates it. He will be getting lashed for every second he doesn't translate it, and he will be translating it for me as I play, as he scribbles the script down furiously on a notepad.

There will be much rejoicing.

Does anyone think the flash animation is actually straight from M3 or could it maybe be a mock up as a hint/teaser to what they are secretly developing?

Mockup? Not sure. After years of banging my head against the wall, I think I would rather it be the actual game and have some kind of honest to God proof that IT EXISTS.

Judging by the graphics (the DS and GBA have far superior graphics) and the fact that there is a darth vader spoof I highly doubt that is acctual photage, but like you said, its most likely a teaser trailer....
So Mother 3 is going to be released.... hmmm I like the sound of that! Mother 3 released! Surprised

I remember when I was in elementry school and I saw an ad for Earthbound 64, I was so very excited! It is really hard for stuff like this to sink in, but rest assured that once it does sink in I will run around my house screaming! Grin

This is the first bit of news I have read in over 5 years that has me believing that EB2/M3 is actually going to come out! Surprised

The flash animation is this:

Four people at the company, supposedly the people working on whatever project this is, are fighting the evil N-Dude. It's not really a game, it's just a mock battle and it's more like a movie of a battle than anything else. It's filled with all kinds of text from Mother 2, like "so and so started crying!" "so and so got confused!" "999 of mortal damage to whoever!" In the end, it looks like the N guy kicks all their butts with 999 of physical and mental damage. But at the very end the guy on the ground is like, "I refuse to give up!"

If there were some way to edit the flash file to hack it into English that'd be awesome, but I dunno how to do that.

The fact that this mock up is using terms like " so and so started crying " and " 999 physical and mental damage" shows that the company working on it is staying true to the roots and not changing things a little like Square-Enix has a reputation of doing lately. (I.E. FFX-2)
