I just started to listen to these, and I am in complete agreement with Radiation. It would be awesome to see these in a fan-made EarthBound.
I haven’t listened to it all, because, unfortunately, I can’t plug headphones into my computer stereo and everyone else is going to bed, but I loved what I heard.
I like “crooks” “a small questionare,” and “grass, trees” especially!
And, though it’s already been said, you captured the EarthBound feel to the music. It’s purely amazing.

Wow. It’s really rich, but it maintains the trademark earnestness of Earthbound.

This really arouses my Earthbound nostalgia better than the little Mother 3 music I’ve heard.

It’s true, while I loved writing music of this style a lot, I don’t have the time to devote so much effort to a fan-game project now. I need paying work.

Our project had promise; that’s why I joined it. The story, characters, and locations were all planned out and really very good. I even drew some pictures of the characters I liked them so much. Which leads me to the fact that we didn’t have our stuff together, team-wise. No one was reliable except the team leader and me (but less so than now – I was a teenager!)

So I kept writing this music, with the goal to make it the best possible ever, hoping that by doing so we could would attract more worthy teammates. It didn’t happen, and I got sick of scoring a game that didn’t exist, so I said to the leader “I won’t write any more music until you have a game.” And that was pretty much that. I had been working on it on and off for 2 years.

On the music itself … well, I guess I was trying to create the soul of the game. Not just the soul of Earthbound, but of our game taken on its own, even though it was a fan sequel. It’s what I do for any project that I am enthusiastic about.

I spent a lot of time analysing MOTHER music and collecting and processing sounds. A few actually originated in the Earthbound ROM, but I wanted to copy very little. I wanted it to feel like a real sequel; not a wannabe. Maybe it was silly, but why not?

It seems like it might make the most sense to submit it to the site as Fan Music…. It’s too small for a game, and I don’t like the MOTHER 4 project going on in the Fan Games forum. (Apologies to the creators; it looks like they are working hard on it.)

I wish so bad that Earthbound 2 could get made … maybe I’ll try contacting the old project leader … what does everyone think? Of the idea of making an Earthbound 2 aside from MOTHER 4.

The only thing I don’t like about the M4 fangame is the main character’s hair. It’s too weird or gothy and doesn’t feel EarthBound-y enough.

Same here – that’s pretty much what turned me off from it. And the characters look too similar to MOTHER 3.

Anyway, I think that the MOTHER 4 team should at least change the main character’s hair. It’s too… Nine Inch Nails or something!

@Chaisu: No offence! I’m just stating my personal opinion. It seems I’m not the only one, anyway. Maybe if the characters were changed and the story was fleshed out a little more I might be a little more interested!

Wow, this is some great stuff. Very close in spirit to the music in Mother 2. I’ve been writing music for a Mother fangame myself, but I have to say, your music much truer to the original games than I could ever hope to achieve. :/

The songs are all extremely well developed.. I absolutely LOVE the mature, intricate melodies and quirky, percussive elements (the latter of which drew me into Earthbound’s soundtrack in the first place) as well as the subtle nods to original Mother songs you brought to each of your pieces. I can easily see the 2 years of work you put into these songs.

I’m very glad you gave us the privilege of listening to your wonderful work.

Well this is the “Team Leader”. Roger, it’s been ages since I’ve heard these and they’re still great. I remember way back in the day when zophar.net actually helped people advertise projects on their front page. If only finding such talented people were so easy now. Can’t wait for the fan translation project to be made, but like you said, its sad because the game we were making had a lot of things completed and was very promising. We had a 200 page script, not including npc and character dialogue, Roger’s sketches, maps of all dungeons and towns complete with npc and enemy placement, and obviously great music…..just pretty much everything short of programming. We could never find a talented artist/programmer for our project (we have some really funny characters drawn, but no tilesets or battle graphics) and thus, we put it on hold. It’s such a shame though…the characters were so likable and the dialouge/story were oh so earthboundy. And as of now only a handful of people know that. I have hope though…because I know…and Roger does too, that it would make an unbelievable game. And if there are any potential takers here or perhaps someone who could point us in the right direction, I and hopefully Roger will pick this back up again.

As of now we are reading through the script and dialogue to be able to give you folks a sense of what this game’s about. So keep posted! I’m sure you’ll love what we’ve worked so hard to make over all these years (this project officially began 7 years ago).

Hm, and now I can access the site, but none of the music plays, and when I go to that directory and try some of the files, it says they don’t exist. Do you suppose he removed them?

Well, if my E-mail is what did it, he never replied. It would be nice if he could explicitly let us know whether he wanted this music spread around or not.
