The rules, brought over from the old fora with some re-writing here and there.
GENERAL RULES
1. Regular forum rules and common sense apply. Don't be an idiot. This rule is probably the broadest rule here, and as such we mods will be going around dropping the hammer on people who are being stupid. A lot of the previous rules have been removed because we felt they fell under the general role of 'common sense', so use what you've got. You'll know you were dumb if we edit or delete your posts.
2. All IFs must be related to either the EarthBound series or Starmen.Net. So, if you want, you can start an IF about about SSB:M about Ness, or make a story about people here at Sm.Net exploring the EB world or fighting the Big Oppressive N. It's not strictly related to EB anymore, given you can do Starmen.Net stuff (Check Duel in the Group Fics section for an example), but don't steer it toward stuff like Chrono Trigger stories. That's bad.
3. You cannot limit in any way the people writing on an IF. This rather omnibus rule prohibits: limiting the number of people who can write on the IF; saying that certain people cannot write on the IF; and creating storylines which only you can write on.
4. Signatures are forbidden.
5. If you are starting an RPG, please denote it with [RPG] or (RPG) somewhere in the title. (Re-added 18 June 2004.)
6. If you wish for an IF that you have started to include Mother 3 content, you will include [MOTHER3] in the title of the topic when you create it. Also, if replying to such an IF, you will not change the the title of your post. I repeat: you will not change the title of your post. (I will seriously consider deleting any topics without the tag and any posts that change the title of the post.)
In any other case, no Mother 3 content is to be included. (Added 25 May 2006.)
GENRE RULES
1.Choose-your-own-IF, One Word, and One-Liner topics are prohibited and will be locked on sight. (Amended 11 November 2004.)
2. RPG topics, including RPG/IF topics, are limited to three at any given time. Such topics which have been idle for more than week will be deleted.
AUTHOR CHARACTER RULES
Definition: a character created by an author for a story. AC possess a backstory and may be either original or derived from non-descript characters in EarthBound. Non-AC include characters from EarthBound, such as Ness, Geldegarde Monotoli and Ay-Go Stikke.
1. The originator of an IF can decide however many AC other authors can introduce into the topic. The default maximum is three AC per author, although the originator may decide to reduce that maximum to zero, one or two.
2. You may not kill off, introduce or otherwise play fast and loose with another writer's AC without that person's permission.
WRITING RULES
1. You will not drastically change the storyline with a single post. This is especially true for very short posts.
2. A topic will be written in a consistent style and narrative person. That is, look at how the first post is written and write your posts that way. If it's a first-person narrative, keep writing in FPN; if it's a script-format IF, write in script-format; if it's a third-person limited-omniscient narrative, you keep writing in TPLON. And so on.
