I want to make a page that lists all the rumors, past and present, so that they can all be in one spot. But I need help remembering all the rumors and where they originated from. In some cases, rumors came true, like the Mother 1+2 port that EGM posted in the rumor section long ago. Others, like that surfergirl person, didn’t pan out.

So if you can remember any old rumors, post them here. And if you remember where they originated and can point me in the right direction, that’ll help too

Do theories count?

‘Cause I remember being theory-crazy back in the days of earthbound.net, which is when I first encountered all those “Giygas” bits on the old site, one of which was rather elaborate and claimed that Giygas was Ness himself. Because Giygas rumors/theories are incredibly popular, since then, I’m sure everyone and their dog has made this claim at some point.
Also, there was one about the Mani-Mani Statue that I can’t find anymore. It might have been a fanfic and not an article, but it claimed that the statue was originally a great warrior in some ancient battle (probably the one in Scaraba Desert), and he sold his soul to some evil being, who commanded him to take his sword and cross it over his chest, blade down. Once he did that, the evil being struck him with lightning and turned him into the statue. If someone could find this theory, please let me know, I really want to re-read it!

I’m quite excited for this, because the rumors and theories help me mold my fancomics (although I keep my comics as original and kenisu as possible, the theories are often so well-detailed that they alert me to any crucial, canon tidbits that I may have overlooked), and any database that kept track of them would be wonderfully welcome.

And then although this one is disproven, there was “Earthbound coming to the VC.” Which one of us spotted the “E” rating for Earthbound on the ESRB’s VC releases, in which bricks were shat upon finding out. However, we were later disproven by Nintendo when they said that the rating wasn’t supposed to be on there, and that they probably would’ve faced a lot of lawsuits had they released the game on the VC due to copyright issues.

The last remotely concrete thing about the MOTHER series and Europe that I heard was when MOTHER 3 GBA was going to be “released” in Europe with a hero named “Tess”. This was back in 2006.

…on second thought, I should probably scare-quote the entire last half of that first sentence, plus a couple of words in the first half just to be on the safe side.

Well, would the huge Mother3 64DD “auction” thing count, with the 4 DD disks that turned out to be some other games?

^That must be why they aren’t releasing EarthBound Zero on the VC…
