<p>Before I go any further: MOTHER at 4th place, beating Majora's Mask? Amazing. The fans have spoken once again, but will it do anything? I'm not optimistic.</p>

<p>Nintendo has ignored much more impressive/visible displays of popularity in the past, including <a href="http://starmen.net/stonehenge/">33,000+ petition signatures</a>, <a href="http://starmen.net/siteinfo/media.php">at least half a dozen magazine appearances</a> (that list is missing 2 or 3), M1+2 being the #1 import back in 2003, the 213,000 unique visitors to the <a href="http://mother3.fobby.net/">MOTHER 3 Fan Translation blog</a> over the past 7 months, and of course all of the calls and letters they've been bombarded with since the <a href="http://starmen.net/ebsiege/">EB Siege</a> began 10 months ago.</p>

<p>What's a devoted fan to do? <a href="http://starmen.net/ebsiege/pktuben/">Keep spreading the word.</a> Anyone who has been a fan for even a short while is well-acquainted with disappointment, but the cool thing about EarthBound fans is that these things only make us stronger and more determined</p>

You know, i'm feeling kinda optimistic about this one. Nintendo has always thought "Yeah, well thats a small but deticated fanbase" But now all nintendo power wants it? That will make some difference, i think.

I seriously cannot understand why Nintendo won't release Earthbound on the Virtual Console.

Yes, it was not THE huge success when it first came out in the US back in 1995.

Heck, conditions are even worse over here in Europe where it didn't even get a release EVER. I knew so many people who played Smash Bros. 64 wondering who that strange boy with that red and blue baseball cap was.

I bought me a US SNES off of eBay a few years ago just so that I could play Earthbound (and FF4 and 6 and Chrono Trigger and Mario RPG, but mainly Earthbound) and it was on that very console on which I played through the whole game. Not on some crazy emulator or some thingamajiggy but on the original console.

Now that Earthbound was voted #1 and even MOTHER was voted #4 (holy crap, how did THAT happen???) it is my opinion that Nintendo really has to do something. And I mean something like...well...release the games on the Virtual Console?

Releasing MOTHER on the Virtual Console wouldn't be hard either considering they already have a complete official in-house translation of the game in their archives.

So please Nintendo: Release these two games on the Virtual Console. If you ever want to make these people shut up about Earthbound, just release the game already. PLZKTHXBYE

I'm not surprised in the least of the results.

What dissapointed me is that the staff picks completely lacked any Mother/Earthbound titles. It's like they're trying to send a message...

But I still have hopes for EB. I have never played it, but Mother 3 is now one of my top games... Ever. So I would obviously love to play it.

I hope this convinces them. Seriously! Why does Nintendo hate EB so much?

by the way if EB does go on VC it will cost 800 Wii P and MOTHER 500 right?

Gah. First thing that stood out was the bolded Mother. I didn't even see EarthBound, so I thought NP mixed it up. Then I saw EB as #1, and then immediately thought "WTheck MOTHER is on the list!?"

...which generally means I'm more excited about that than EB, which I kinda figured would be on it anyway (but not #1, more like number 4). In fact, I was thinking about it all this morning. I said to myself "Hmmm, I wonder if those poll results ever came in. EB is probably #4..."

It may not do anything but I'd love Mother on the VC.

just think how cool it will be seeing EB and MOTHER on the wii menu MOTHER will be in english right i never had time to buy the VC jap imports yet

but what i dont get is ness and lucas has been seen alot in ssb and what noa got to do is put EB and MOTHER on VC and maybe we will get ninten in the next ssb

I feel useful. I didn't vote for Mother since I considered it a wasted vote, but...

My list was something like this (order not exact):

1. Earthbound 2. Donkey Kong 64 3. Super Smash Bros 4. Diddy Kong Racing (?) OR Pokemon Stadium 5. Completely and totally forgot.

Of course, NP had a disclaimer saying that the votes may or may not affect the releases at all. But still...;)

The great thing about this is that we didn't do this. The many EarthBound fans out there did. A lot of votes had to be cast in order for EarthBound AND MOTHER to topple the likes of a Zelda game. Way to go everyone. We all let Nintendo Power know what the #1 VC game is. :thumbup: :thumbup:

Just for the heck of it, here's the comment they put for the results. "The results from our Virtual Console most-wanted poll are in, and the classic cult-hit SNES RPG Earthbound took the top spot. The moral of the story: NP readers love 16-bit RPGs." Nothing ruined my mood after I read the top 5, not even shocking myself on the fuse box in the basement or stubbing my toe really hard on the way up from the basement.

Reid, as someone who has been following EarthBound news more closely than myself, in your opinion, why is Nintendo so hesitant about releasing anything related to EarthBound over here? I don't get it! They put Ness AND NOW Lucas in Super Smash Bros. Do they fear that if they give in, people will expect and demand a sequel to EB to be released when they flat out don't want to for either legal reasons or technical reasons? It's not like Nintendo to not whore out a franchise for everything it's worth. And people clearly want this franchise.

So my question is, why is EB so different? There has to be a parsimonious explanation! Are they milking the hype? Are they afraid we don't have the numbers to support a release?

this is indeed awesome,not only that Earthbound is #1, but the fact that Mother is #4 above Majora's Mask, is just crazy!

Well, I think Nintendo will have to listen now. That is all I have to say besides this: It will happen. Mother will be on VC. EarthBound will be too. Mother 3 will come here, but not for a while. Trust me.
