If you haven't heard about The Speed Gamers, they've been making waves in the online gaming community by broadcasting live speedrun marathons through complete game series including Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Tomorrow is the inauguration of their fifth speedrun: the MOTHER series!

Each marathon is broadcast live, and the MOTHER run is expected to last for 55 hours. During this time they'll be encouraging people to join to the EB Siege by Calling Nintendo and requesting EarthBound! These guys generate quite an audience, so be sure to head to thespeedgamers.comto watch live and join in the live chat. You can also keep an eye on things from here:

Edit: Also, Reid, I’m pretty sure this is their fifth marathon. They kept saying during the Metroid marathon that that one was their fourth.

Perhaps, or to get Nintendo to pay attention because the interest for the MOTHER series is there… We want to tell Nintendo that if they release MOTHER games in the states, it will not only make us happy but it will sell like hotcakes for them.

This is MSico from The Speed Gamers, and it is a huge thrill to see ourselves at Starmen.net! I’ve been an avid follower of the page since Earthbound 64: Legend of the Pig King. It means a lot to us, and to me personally, to be able to help in the EB Siege in such a big way.

This will be our fifth marathon, as stated above. We are not the 4/48 team; during our first two marathons in April and June we played the 7 console Zeldas in 72 hours, and then we did 10 Mario games in 24 hours (incl. Lost Levels and Luigi’s Mansion), extending the play to 48 hours by 100%-ing SMB3, World, 64, and Galaxy, and two weeks ago we had our most successful marathon to date with the complete Metroid series.

We go live this afternoon, where we will be starting Mother 1 (the translated version; we have ordered a copy of Mother 1 + 2 GBA so as to not promote piracy), and we do intend to go through all three games (as huge EB fans, we already had Mother 3… and anxiously anticipate the translation patch!) This is not for any charity, but rather our way of giving back to the community who has supported us so far, and to raise awareness of Earthbound for those who haven’t gotten the chance to play this awesome series. Hopefully our calls will make a difference! We’re giving it all we’ve got!

oh cool! I remember this being mentioned a few months ago. I’m really excited that the speed gamers are gonna do it. Too bad I wont be able to start watching til 5 but oh well. …its only the first hour of MOTHER anyways

I really want to see a speed run of EB0. I’ve never heard of one and am interested to see how it turns out, especially since it can be such a grind-fest at times.

Will these guys be able to finish in 55 hours? Are they experienced with the series? Either way, it looks like they’ve got lots of experience. This is a very good thing. I’m very excited to see what happens!

I don’t see how all three game will be completed in just 55 hours. Are there going to be three people playing simultaneously?

No pressure of call’n in for your very first time. I might either ruin the whole series’ fate of being worldwide or will finally get my courage and make things right for the series and dramatically change the course of video games for the rest of eternity. Again, no pressure.

I closed and re-opened my browser, and when I try to enter the chat it says:

What does that mean?
