This is an EarthBound site, so let's have some EarthBound game stuff sometimes ;) This particular update comes courtesy of Floogal, our local super EarthBound gameplay analyzer person. And it's a pretty sweet trick: how to skip the Starman Junior battle at the beginning of the game!

Details about it can be found on the forum here, but basically, you want to do these things after Pokey joins you at the beginning of the game.

1. Don't take King with you.
2. At the top of the hill, lure an enemy up to the roadblocks. This is the tough part.
3. Also make sure your HP is as close to 0 as possible before talking to Picky.
4. When walking up to Picky, walk low, so that you don't accidentally make the enemy go far offscreen and disappear.
5. After the Buzz Buzz speech, go fight the enemy (if you did things right, it should still be there).
6. Let the enemy kill Ness. You have two turns until Buzz Buzz starts attacking, so hopefully the enemy won't miss or do anything non-attacky.
7. You'll get a game over and start back at your house, but with Picky, Pokey, and Buzz Buzz.
8. You can continue the game normally now. Once the sun comes up, the Starman Jr. battle won't be triggered if you walk in that area, so don't worry.

LOL that is so cool! The player should have tried going back to where you fight the Starman Jr. (But now from the other side...:o) To see what would happen!

How long do you keep Buzz buzz, Picky and Pokey?

I can’t get to Frank at level 1, it’s too frustrating. It would be possible, though.

I guess that keeping Picky, Pokey and buzz-buzz after the morning must gives some graphic bugs. Imagine having King, Picky, Pokey, Buzz-buzz, Dungeon Man, Paula, Jeff, Poo, Tony, Bubble monkey and a Teddy Bear in your team : )

Ha, that’s pretty cool. However, if you can’t keep Buzz Buzz, Picky, and Pokey, I don’t see much use for it since it’s essentially the same game but without the first battle. If you want to do a low-level run, then I guess this could be useful, but I’ve never cared much for that kind of thing.

How did you get past the shark? The only thing I can think of is that you ran from the battle and he disappeared. Can you do that?

Just imagine Starman Jr. waiting for them, Ness doesn’t go back to Onett at the end of the game, by that time he probably just gave up!

I really doubt it. I’m pretty sure once you leave Pokey’s house, it untriggers the Starman Jr. event.

Heh, I’m surprised that this hasn’t been thought of before!

Now that I’ve got into mentality of how to skip events in the game…let’s see how many we can find!

you know, i’ve always wondered if that were possible, but i never tried it out. now i only wish there was a way to save Buzz-Buzz. ;_;
