its true
apparently he needs a permit.the police officer that interrogated him is now being investigated. This violates america’s rights to freedom of religious expression. These people deserve even LESS than rocks being thrown at them.
TO MANY TOASTERS (more like not enough toasters)
You’ve really got to find some better news sources. I wouldn’t believe that site if it told me the sky was blue.
OL: Maybe they’re an independent group who can’t afford to buy a building?
“I still believe that peace and plenty and happiness can be worked out some way. I am a fool.”
Why can’t these people go to a regular church for bible studies?
<@RiotingNerd> “yeah, but holding hands is like anal for 8 year olds”
Somehow I think that site might be a little bit biased. The permit they’re being asked to obtain is for parking and sidewalk regulation compliance, so if they’ve got a bunch of cars on a residential street every week, that can probably pose a bit of a problem. It doesn’t look like we’ve got the whole story, though.
edit: Hey guys, guess what? It doesn’t matter now. The city admits it was wrong, everyone is happy.
The State of Utah is a degenerate, blasted intellectual wasteland, and I pity everyone unfortunate enough to be stuck there, and scorn everyone involved in its continued fall into babbling idiocy.
I was thinking he meant like, dodge balls or something
OP’s Source:
A San Diego pastor and his wife were interrogated by a county official and warned they will face escalating fines if they continue to hold Bible studies in their home.
Actual Article
A local pastor and his wife claim they were interrogated by a San Diego County official, who then threatened them with escalating fines if they continued to hold Bible studies in their home.
<@RiotingNerd> “yeah, but holding hands is like anal for 8 year olds”
This whole thing makes no sense. Someone probably complained about a noise violation, and these people are jumping at any opportunity to feel victimized and pretend they’re the Tribulation Force. Especially that alleged interrogation. “Do you say praise the Lord?” WTF?
“I still believe that peace and plenty and happiness can be worked out some way. I am a fool.”
Basically this is a bunch of stupid people who want a reason to hate the government when the police just want them to calm things down abit and allow people to drive by their house.
Clayman: MatCab is cool, he’s drawing me a sketch.
Clay’s Dad: Is that what the kids call it these days?
The apology letter linked to from the news article I posted says that the Officer who did the interrogating acted on “unclear language” in the zoning laws. And the council response linked on the same page says the concern was over 7 or 8 additional cars parked along the side of the road.
So to me it looks like an overly strict officer who carried out his questioning in the wrong way, leading to massive overreactions over something really minor.
I fail to see how responding to noise and parking violations is being “overly strict”. I’d call the cops if there were a bunch of wackadoodles yelling to their crazy god and parking on my lawn, too.
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
naw, i didn’t read the article cause i don’t really care. it was either some crazy religious nuts being too loud or some cop being an --, neither one is a big surprise to anybody
also, i love when little children throw that fight the power thing in as a jab. i’m glad you’re happy to live in a system where cops can come and break up religious ceremonies for no reason.
wouldn’t want to fight the power
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
Yes, I’m the child, when you’re the one who posted an assumption of what the article said and then answer with “lol I didn’t read it because I don’t care” And so if you don’t care you are posting because…? If it’s to be a jerk, then you shouldn’t have bothered. We’ve seen your posts before. That or you made the assumptions before reading the article and then say “lol I don’t care” as a manner of pushing any blame off of yourself for being idiotic.
I’m also glad you take such a linear interpretation of the word “power”. Cause we all know the only power floating around is in the government.
the original article was incredibly biased from some idiots blog, and the cop apparently had every right and city ordinance on his side to shut it down. someone must have complained, because cops don’t just show up to your residence for no reason.
if they need a permit, then that’s stupid, but it’s the law
and we wouldn’t want to fight against the power, would we
Then you really have no room to speak, do you? You’re only digging yourself a deeper hole here.
digging myself a deeper hole because i think that all parties involved in the dispute are morons? digging a hole for what?
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
you’re obviously against fighting the power, and from the news article that you linked
If the County refuses to release the pastor and his wife from obtaining the permit, they will consider a lawsuit in federal court.
the county requires them to have a permit. they should just deal with it and stop fighting the power
i’m making fun of you for saying “fight the power” because it’s a really stupid ad hom that conservatives somehow think is an insult
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
god emily stop fighting the power so hard

Your thanks are quite kind, but I’m afraid you’ve made a mistake. I’m no hero. Good night.

the city dropped the charges because they don’t want negative attention, which is worse
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
Other sources tell nearly identical accounts. You can say that the blog is biased all you want, but what if you took account of the possibility that the 10news link added the phrase “claim” to subtly try and deter readers from being sympathetic with the pastor and his wife?
For all the asinine crap that comes out of your mouth. What else could be more obvious?
ahh, the evil evil media trying to persecute christians, i forgot. my asininity got right in the way of seeing the truth
it’s obvious what happened. a neighbor complained that they were being loud (that’s why he asked them what they were saying), and complained about how many cars there were (even if they were parked legally), and realized that they broke the law.
the city, not wanting to hear the --ing and moaning of babbies like yourself and emily dropped any kind of action.
but, no no, it makes much more sense that a county really gives a damn that people (who are probably mostly of the same faith as the people who run the county) are having religious services in a private residence. totally makes more sense.
look at you downvoting posts! so cute
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
yase, it’s much more logical that the county government is plotting against christians than it is that they violated some laws and the county doesn’t want a giant media frenzy about it
totally more logical and reasonable.
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
who said anything about the county government plotting againt christians?
is that now the same thing as a cop being confused over specifics of zoning regulations and questioning someone?
edit: oh wait. you’re doing THIS again. turning the other side’s argument into something completely different so that you have more ground to pretend to stand on.

the blog that they linked to has some stupid bullcrap about “defending religious liberty in america”
is that now the same thing as a cop being confused over specifics of zoning regulations and questioning someone?
where did it say he was confused? no source on that at all

why do you think i care what anyone on the internet thinks of me, especially someone who doesn’t have a basic grip on the way the world operates. also, it’s called a strawman, and it’s not what i was doing
the scenario that i proposed is just much more likely than “COPS TRYING TO STOP WORSHIP SERVICES DEFEND THE WORD OF GOD”
I’m the keymaster, are you the Gatekeeper?
haha god you guys are a bunch of babies who can’t rcp
have fun talking about what breakfast cereals you miss the most you pathetic losers, i’m gonna go back to arguing with fifth graders, they have better comprehension skills

That’s what my dad said when he left my mom D:
And this is why I propose we all stop and think before we post news articles.

Honestly, you do need a permit to do most anything in America. You need a permit to protest, even.
I don’t see why people think this is such a travesty. If anything, making it so people need permission to teach religion is a good thing, because then we might have less priests/pastors that are racist/molest children/misogynist. (Not saying they [priests/pastors] all are as Emily might assume, but saying that there have been priests who are all/some of the above and no one can deny that.). As much as it is against the first amendment to restrict the freedom of religion, there are penalties about Hate speech, and religion very well should be monitored as many religious leaders have used their religion to spread hatred, including the Pope. Besides, it’s not like anyone is denying them the right to get a permit. It’s as simple as seeing if you’re qualified, and if you’re not qualified for the job, then do the world a favor and stay out of the practice. After all, we don’t let doctors without licenses operate on people, we shouldn’t let Pastors without some course on civility teach a mind-altering process.
Alc has a very good point, about both Emily and the article.

Honestly, Emily, I may have missed that article because I don’t like reading your posts.
But after having read it, my point remains sound except for that last scentence. Obviously, the police had to have been called because of a disturbance. The cops probably wouldn’t have arrested them otherwise (because cops aren’t necessarily motivated to issue out permit charges without a disturbance issue.)
Also, no: religion is different from philosophy in that it is purposefully driven to serve the goals of a God. In that same way, people who teach a cult should be forced to take a permit, as they might intentionally steer people into doing misdeeds. I used to think the same thing, that Religion is the same as Philosophy. But people don’t treat it the same way. Philosophy doesn’t have that sort of power over a person, as it merely suggests a life style change, where as a religion can force someone through fear.
