Ever hang around “gamers”, and while you’re playing a game or just talking, they say something that makes you wanna facepalm yourself? When I’m around MY friends, I hear stuff like this all the time… -_-;

“You’re playing the original Zelda? That game’s sooo old, why would you play it?”
“I think Ness and Lucas are brothers or something.”
“In NSMBWii, there are these new koopa characters. One for each world.”
“Do the Mario? What’s that mean?”
“What happened to Meta Knight’s accent? Isn’t he Spanish?”
“Why didn’t they just name the Pokemon Trainer, Ash?”
“There ARE anime characters in Brawl. Just look at Pokemon. So Naruto DID have a chance.”
“Man, Nintendo is powerful. I mean Pokemon started as an anime, and Nintendo took THAT over”
“Hey, that’s Leon from Kingdom Hearts!”
“Dissidia Final Fantasy is cool. But why do they call Leon, Squall?”
“Cloud is the coolest FF hero ever!”
“Sephiroth is the coolest FF villian ever!”
“Who’s Kefka?”
“Why isn’t Sora in Dissidia?”
“You know what’d be cool? If they made a Pokemon game where you get more than just 8 badges.”

And of course, the one I’m sure we’ve all heard:

Ehh, we had a similar topic about this a while ago, something about gamer ignorance or whatever we were calling it.

Basically, it all boils down that there are a ton of casual gamers out there that don’t know jack when it comes to gaming, and it is a little preposterous to call these people out or make fun of them. We’re all ignorant about something, so it’s not even a big deal.

And then there’s the people that ask for the “Super Mario Nintendo Galaxy” for their “Sony Playstation box.”
I don’t really care that much when people make mistakes, but seriously,
Super Mario NINTENDO Galaxy on the SONY Playstation box.

why would you expect newer gamers to know this? tbqh I’d be more surprised if someone did know what eb was, though that may be partly due to eb never being released here.

Yeah, not knowing what Earthbound is, is understandable but come on…Kefka man!! If they only know stuff about FF7 then they aren’t FF fans, they’re FF7 fans.

Was it the “ignorance from non-gamers” thread? Yeah, that went a little crazy…

Um, I’m rarely put off by the comments other kid gamers make, it’s usually only the typical “that game’s for wimps!” or “go play Halo instead!” which are mildly irritating, but then I just think to myself “we just have different opinions, it doesn’t really concern me what they like and dislike.”

What difference does it make? When you make that classification, it still remains an elitist issue. A close friend of mine is an extremely avid gamer, but he only plays sports and racing games. He logs more hours per week than I can ever dream of, and he always seems to buy the newer systems before I do. Ask him who the villain of FF7 is or what Earthbound is, and he doesn’t have a clue. It’s just how it is.

These are the two I have the biggest beef with. Like it or not, people like these guys. That doesn’t make them horrible gamers. (Heck, I’d put Cloud down as third coolest myself, beaten out only by Kain and Fighter. And Sephiroth’s got nothing on Golbez. But I’m derailing now…)

Well, to be honest, I always thought Sora woulda made a cool guest character in Dissidia. I’m not crazy KH Fan, but the FF universe is pretty much tossed in the KH universe. Why not toss some cool KH fanservice in an FF game and add Sora as a playable character? Heck, they prolly could’ve also added Riku to keep the balance goin. As they have 1 Hero and 1 Villain from each game. Wouldn’t been that bad of an idea to be quite honest. But whatever. What really shocked me about Dissidia though, was that Auron wasn’t in. Heck, I remember so many people wetting their pants over how cool and what not they thought he was. I thought the fans would’ve whined enough to get him in…guess he’s not as popular as I remember him being or something…

I remember when my friend came to school all happy and pleased with himself. You see, he had recently acquired a copy of Kirby’s Dream Land 3 and was playing through it. Knowing I was a big Kirby fan, he approached me excitedly.

“Hey, I just beat another boss last night!” He proclaimed “It was that painter girl, Adeline”.

At this point I slapped him swiftly across his face and instructed him to go home and destroy every piece of gaming equipment he owned. No man who confuses Ado with an identical-in-every-way character from Kirby 64 deserves to call himself a gamer. I even got a group of friends together and beat him up.

Back in my Metroid Prime: Hunter days, you wouldn’t believe how many people thought a glitch involving Trace, a glitch that, in the standard arena, lets you be inside of a wall so you can shoot people but people can’t shoot you, was fair and balanced for tourney-legal.

Let’s get this straight.

The super cheap sniping character.
-Turns invisible with his good weapon.
-Good weapon is a sniper rifle with zoom.
-Turns invisible in morph ball form.
-Has one of the strongest and best-reach morph ball attacks.
Has a glitch that can get him into a wall.
-Can’t be shot at.
-Hard to even find.
-Can shoot people.

And that’s totally OK.

Also half the reason I automatically dislike JRPGs is because these “true gamers” go in not knowing anything about battle systems or strategy, waste their strongest and coolest looking attacks on anything that moves, and only the play the game for the story, and not just the story, but for the story THEY like, the part with the handsome guys with giant swords acting like douchebags and their “lovable” girlfriend hitting them every left turn to show off her independence.

Or in a worst case scenario using GameFAQs for the ENTIRE GAME just so they made sure they got EVERY character, for the sake of pairing them up like a multiplication table. Maybe it’s just because I’m a mystery fanatic (I’m pretty sure it’s not though) but I had an easy time with Phoenix Wright, only losing cases because I was expecting an odd twist of things and got myself stuck trying to find evidence when I wasn’t supposed to. Yet my friends were IDIOTS with this game. If I include my real-life friends, I know at least one who had to use an FAQ or the “save and guess” system for an entire chapter, excluding the first trial.

That’s ridiculous. If the game IS too hard for you, don’t play it. Simple. I don’t see the fun of going through an entire game with a guide in front of you walking you through it step by step. If the story is THAT good, go read a synopsis about it, don’t tread into “true gamer” territory when you don’t belong.

Though at the same time, I guess a debate would be needed to settle what a “true gamer” is.

You must cry at 2nd gen being remade, given that you get 16 badges in it.
