I was messing with this ROM a few weeks ago and it’s been pretty easy to hack. Rather than repeat everything I’ve already said, I’ll just link to my blog thing about it.

Whether the MOTHER 2 part gets worked on or not is entirely up to Jeffman. It’d be a ton of work, way more than I personally can handle, so I leave all that to him. The first game is incredibly easy to hack and translate though, so I’ll be messing with it for the next few months.

Well thta’s pretty awesome. Not very sure as to why bother translating it as it’s already been done but it might be much more useful than I think.

So would this be, like, EarthBound Zero patched onto Mother in 1+2? Kinda neat.

There’s actually a patch out there that takes the EB0 script and sticks it into the M1+2 ROM. But like I mentioned, the original script is pretty dry, details of the plot/story get removed or changed (sometimes arbitrarily, sometimes for censorship), and there are little things shared with the other games that the EB0 ROM didn’t do right. From little things like the first weapon being a Cracked Bat instead of a Plastic Bat, enemy names, item names, and other such stuff. All the little touches that will be kept in will make it cooler for EB fans. Even things like “(Click beep-beep-beep…)” instead of “Slam.” give it that extra layer of whatever it is that Mother games have.

What are you going to call Mt. Itoi? I’m hoping that you keep the EB0 name for it. If this ever happens, that would be awesome, because I really hate playing games on my laptop, and EB0 is the only one that I still have to play that way.

It’s nice to see that the line has been changed to it’s translated Japanese version.

Heh, I just realized I misspelled “somewhere” when Ninten is talking to his dad. I really need to make some kind of previewer tool for this text so I can catch stuff like that more easily

I’ve played up to getting Lloyd with the Easy Ring on, man that makes the game so much more palatable. I think people will like it.

Mother 2 is censored too.

I’m sure they used the censored M1 just because it had the English version improvments, but I think the main reason they used the censored M2 was because of the Red Cross thing. Maybe.

Are you sure? I thought that the GBA version had things like pajama Ness in Magicant or the lack of hospital crosses.

EDIT: Actually, you’re (at least partially) right. The spanking noise is uncensored. I’ve heard for a long time that it was the censored version, though, and I can’t find any proof on Youtube, so I’m not sure.

Actually, Itoi admitted to not bothering with fine-tuning the final areas of the game, just because. I don’t think there was any specific story-ish reason for it.

It’ll be Mother, I don’t want to mess with the title screen + the cartridge select screen + the super title screen. I already had to mess with the stuff before the title screen and it was very annoying.

Sort of. They added in an item called the “Memory Chip”. You got it from EVE’s remains after she was destroyed, and whenever you used it, you got warped back to her. Supposedly, they were planning on adding it to the English version (of the original game), but that didn’t happen.
