Okay, now this is the helpdesk topic. Ask questions here instead of making a seperate thread.
I’m having some trouble with the Dragon Tank. Every tme I attack, I do around 70-80 with Crono and 40 with Lucca, then he heals 70 and I do around 5o intead. How much HP does he have total, and are there any good stratedgies against him?
Well I just fought him and won easily like this: attack the head first, then the wheels, then the body. The head heals everything, so once that’s gone, it can’t do any healing.
Well, it usually kills me before I can defeat it, and when I try to heal I lose because it attacks twice in one turn and whoever healing is always low on health too.
Do the monkey with me!

Attack the head repeatedly, and have Lucca/Crono use a tonic when you need it. Then kill the Grinder (wheels) and then the actual tank. If you’re still having trouble with it for some reason, make sure you got the 5 Mid Tonics from the supervisor’s corpse and that you’re at a sufficient level. (Make sure you have the Lode Sword, too.) Just keep attacking and healing (sometimes with BOTH characters if you’re low enough on HP.) The only time I have ever had trouble with the Dragon Tank is when I intentionally avoided fighting every battle in the entire game up to that point.
ps – use Gamefaqs if you’re impatient but this is a helpdesk topic now wooooo — SB
Actually, I’m just gonna turn this into our Helpdesk topic, because I have an opinion too! (Did anyone not see that coming?)
Once you’ve dealt with the head, you can keep the body from double-attacking by defeating it first and the Grinder second — if you beat the wheel first, the body will shoot a laser at you every time it launches missiles, which is more damaging in the long run. Just make sure you keep your health high enough (over 75 HP should do it) so that you don’t get trampled to death if the wheels are storing energy.
If anyone else has gameplay questions, please ask them here!
Because it combines two top-tier single techs into one grand attack and causes more damage when Frog’s HP is lower, while still somehow retaining Lucca’s destructive force at all times. (Apparently, not even GameFAQs knows how the “low HP = greater damage” attacks work.)
Was the monster raising system in the original or just the remake?
Also do party members gain experience when not directly in your party? An example, if i have Chrono, Lucca, and Robo were in my party would Frog still gain experience?
You see, I had an uncle named Stewie, and he used to sell bicycles.

Monster raising system was only in the remake, ’course.
Thank you.
Does anyone have any tips for raising monsters?
My monster is currently a shadow smidge, and we currently have 6 wins, but now monsters that are extremely more powerful then my monster are showing up in the lowest tier, and I mean monsters that are a higher form then my smidge like this one snake monster that i can not remember the name of. My main goal is to get it a better form.
You see, I had an uncle named Stewie, and he used to sell bicycles.
Any tips for beating the mudbeasts in 12000 BC? I can beat them, but often at signifigant MP and HP cost.
I know the red and blue ones are vulnerable to fire and water respectively, a mistake I made at first by having Crono spam his lightning magicz and frog not really using his
And don’t use full-party attacks because you’ll get hit with several counterattacks at once.
As for raising monsters, you’ll just have to send it out to train as often as you can (it comes back after ten minutes of game time.) Send it out with a Hawk Talon to increase the chances of a class change, then experiment with the other items to raise its stats or teach it techs. If you’re saved in a location nowhere near the End of Time, you can soft-reset the game (L+R+Select+Start) and access the arena from the menu.
Speaking of which, you can win a Workman’s Wallet at a high-tier battle, so it should be possible to do an initial-level run now (although your time will likely be over three hours before you leave 1000 AD.) There’s gotta be someone who’s already trying it.
Thank you for the help, I now have a Lancer thanks to you. Also the initial level run is a great idea, I think I will try that on a new file once I get 6 or 7 of the endings on my first file.
You see, I had an uncle named Stewie, and he used to sell bicycles.
In the case of Frog Flare, it's the same as using Frog Squash and Flare seperately, but you do 1.25x the damage.
Frog Squash (and the other desperation attacks, Dino Tail & Grand Dream) don't do damage based on the attacker's attack power. Instead, it's based on the attacker's stamina stat & the difference between current & max HP. So 300/600 HP (difference of 300) would do double the damage of 450/600 (difference of 150).
I have no idea what to do in the Derelict Factory. I checked all the computers and went through the whole plac twice (except for the lasers) and nothing happened. What do I do?
If you’ve gone through “except for the lasers” then you haven’t really gone through, now have you? ;D You probably missed the ladder that opened in the first room down from the left-hand elevator.
I’ve got a question, but it’s about a late-game part of the story, as opposed to a gameplay question; however, I don’t think such a trivial matter warrants its own topic, so I’ll just ask here, if that’s alright.
In the very last room where you fight Queen Zeal, as you proceed forward you see copies of all of the main characters (except Magus) in capsules. What exactly is the point of this? Zeal seemed to allude to it in her little monologue before you fight her, but she never says what they’re for. And why isn’t there a clone of Magus? Is it just something really obvious that I’m missing here?
Kimi gakure ta yuuki wa OKKUSENMAN! OKKUSENMAN!
Sugi sarishi kisetsu wa doramatikku…
It doesn’t happen until much later in the game, so don’t worry about it.
After your time machine is retrofitted to fly, you can take it to the village of Choras on the southeast island. There, you’ll find the restless spirit of a wandering knight; if you pacify his soul, you’ll earn your upgrade.
Damn… the mega mutant. Is this the first one that is in the black omen? There are three there. The mega mutant, giga mutant, and metal mutant. All three of them are a pain. If I remember correctly they have a magic weakness. Try using triple strikes on it.
Either that or it absorbs magic… good luck.
Clayman: MatCab is cool, he’s drawing me a sketch.
Clay’s Dad: Is that what the kids call it these days?
I have no something.
I’ll go ahead and throw out the tip of “stop using Marle.” There’s really no reason to be using her at all, unless you REALLY like using Haste and hate the idea of replacing your prism helm with a haste helm.
Also, if the Mega Mutant is the one I think it is, then one half is weak to magic and the other half is weak to physical attacks.
Robo’s good if you’ve done the Origin of Machine’s sidequest, but otherwise he’s too slow and I’d go with Lucca. However, I don’t see a reason to stop using Marle. Cube Toss is pretty sexy, and there are only two Haste Helms in a first run even if one is willing to give up Prism Helms, which IMHO is a bad idea.
Mega Mutant is vulnerable to any given attack, so you should be able to hack it to death. Giga Mutant is only vulnerable to magic; I like Crono and Lucca for that fight, since Luminaire and Flare are your strongest all-enemy attacks. Terra Mutant is a special case: only the top half can be damaged with magic, and it drains the bottom half if it gets low, plus you get hit with a Life Shaver counter if you attack the bottom. So pick a team that lets you use a single-enemy dual tech (Frog and Lucca for Red Pin is a good one.)
The guys in the Black Omen are the baddest of the bad, so it really helps to have all the other sidequests done before you head in there. Check with the old man at the end of time to see if you’ve missed any.
Edit: I got the upgrade! Also, how do you get the Moon Stone and Gold Gemstone?
With the upgraded Masamune, put Frog in the lead of your party and go to the Denadoro Mountains. When the bird throws rocks at you there, Frog will catch one and it will be the Gold Gemstone.
The Moon Stone is in a certain area called the Sun Palace on an island during 2300 AD. Go in and beat the boss there (incredibly easy if you come with a Red Plate to absorb Fire Attacks) by attacking the flames around it. One certain flame will damage the boss, the others will counterattack with a moderate fire attack. The boss itself will counterattack with Flare if attacked directly.
Okay, so I’ve beaten the Mega/Tera/Giga Mutants, beaten Lavos senseless, but the Lavos Core….Now that thing is tough! I was able to Luminaire and Frog Flare the crap out of Lavos, but the Lavos Core won’t have any of that. The worst part is that I wasted all of my megalixirs in the Black Omen. So, I figure that I need two things:
1. A strategy for beating the Lavos Core(s)
2. A way to get Megalixirs that doesn’t involve the Black Omen
Attack the left bit physically until it goes down. Luminaire/FrogFlare until it gets revived. Repeat, healing as necessary.
Can’t help you with 2 - am pretty sure that the Black Omen is the best place to get MegaElixirs.
Who’s got a good strategy for beating the Golem Twins? I looked through a few guides and they all centered around techniques that I don’t have. My peoples are level 30-32
The first few times around, I had Frog or Robo with me, so they could use their healing skillz. I used Chrono and Cray’s (Aila) Falcon Kick to deal heavy damage to bothe twins every turn
Get the red vest, the red mail, and Taban’s vest, and equip them on your party members. Obviously, you should have Lucca. The third member can be anyone, it’s probably best if they have healing stuff, because I can’t remember if Taban’s vest confers absorbtion or just high-level protection. Use Lucca to bomb the absolute crap out of them. When they retaliate, it’ll heal the other two characters and hurt Lucca for a non-worrying amount, unless it actually heals her. Just smash the crap out of them with Fire techs and they’ll die, and your characters will probably have full HP at the end.
So, Jim, have I ever told you about the old country? The songs, Jim, ah, they’d melt your face.
The most useful strategy I can think of is Boogie/Falcon Strike. Boogie, a Dual Tech between Ayla and Robo, will put all enemies to sleep, and once they’re asleep, you can spam Falcon Strike with Crono. If you don’t have that Dual Tech, I would suggest grinding to get it. I don’t think it’ll take too long, and it’s definitely worth it. It’s the best strategy I’ve seen so far anyway.
Actually, there is an easy way to expliot their AI.
Whenever they change their element, their ATB resets to zero. Meaning that whenever you hit them with a different element (physical/non-elemental counts, too!), they’ve effectively lost their next turn and need to start waiting for it again.
So, constantly hit them with different elements, and if you space out your attacks well (i.e. don’t have Lucca attack immediately after Crono, but instead wait a bit -- until Crono’s ATB has filled back up a little), they’ll never attack once. Use Lighting/Fire/Water/Ice 2 and Laser Spin. Silver or Gold Studs will help you out. Obviously, don’t have both Marle and Frog on the team (unless Frog is spamming Frog Squash...), and Ayla can’t help (except with Dino Tail or dual techs).
High speed is more important than power, but not excessively so -- I successfully executed this strategy with my party members having speeds of 16, 8, and 6 (and no hasting).
^ what he said. IM’s strategy is good in theory, except that you can’t get to the Red Mail at that point in the game — you’re not allowed into the castle in 1000 AD until you bust the Blackbird. But Blue Vest/Mail would work great with Marle and Frog. But even when they do get in an attack, as long as it’s not physical, you should be fine. (Their physical attacks include Iron Orb, which halves your HP, and a devastating light-burst blast.)
And wll: Boogie causes Stop, which is even better than Sleep. But it doesn’t work on a lot of enemies, particularly bosses.
Even if you don’t have fire-defensive armor, their fire-based attacks are still the weakest thing they have. And chances are very good that you decked everyone out in ruby vests anyway.
GYOTAKUUU!
So I’m in the Ocean Palace in 12000 BC. I’m in that room with all the siderooms, and I have no idea what I’m doing. I know I need to open the passage at the bottom of the room, but what opens it? Please don’t let it be “go kill everything” D=
I eat dem wit ketup. No dem cats stand no chence. Shameless ad
Inside each of the siderooms, there’s a button which summons a Djinn and Barghest (may have different names in the remake.) Beat them and a passage will open in the big room on the bottom left or bottom right. Press the button in the middle of that room, and the passage back in the main room will open.
You shouldn’t shy away from the enemies, either. They’re worth a lot of valuable exp. Scouters can be taken down by the matching magical element (lightning for yellow, fire for red, water for blue.)
